Have you a genuine interest in youth and experience in working with youth or in a related field? Are you able to demonstrate empathy for young people in an open minded and non-judgemental manner? Do you have skills, knowledge and passion for working with young people who have experienced complex trauma and neglect? Are you able to work as part of a team, prioritising individual needs, to achieve the best outcomes for young people? Are you willing to commit to shift work as part of a 24/7 roster including weekends and public holidays? Can you respond creatively to unpredictable and challenging behaviours? Do you have satisfactory computer skills and the ability to record factual notes?


To follow all requirements in the Position Description, including:

  • Provide care and support as well as assisting with the development and maintenance of a trauma-informed therapeutic environment which supports the identified needs of each young person.
  • Support young people showing high levels of distress and emotional trauma using the Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training provided by CatholicCare.
  • Follow all plans that have been developed for the unit and young people.
  • Liaise Child Safety Officers and other professionals involved in the children and young people’s lives, as required.
  • Participate in the day to day operation of the house including performing household duties (cleaning, cooking, and involve the young people in household activities as appropriate).
  • Maintain accurate records ensuring all relevant information is recorded.
  • To maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding the young people’s information and history and that of their family.

Essential Requirements

Valid and current Tasmanian (Australian) Driving Licence

Satisfactory Police Check conducted by CatholicCare Tasmania

Valid and current Tasmanian Working with Venerable People Care

Provide First Aid – or agreeing to undertake this training if offered employment

What happens after I apply?

Shortlisted applicants will be sent a link to an online assessment. Applicants shortlisted after the assessment will be invited to attend a group session and interview on Monday 26 or Wednesday 28 April.

All successful applicants will receive an informative induction, specialised training and access to supervision and reflective practice sessions.
